About Shiraz

Shiraz is the capital of Fars province and the fifth most populated city in Iran. This city is located in the southwest of Iran and has a moderate climate. Shiraz was the capital of Persia during the Zand dynasty. Shiraz is called the cultural capital of Iran and also is known as the city of poets, flowers, and literature. Hafez and Saadi are two world renowned poets who are from Shiraz and their tombs are located in this city. Some of the souvenirs of Shiraz are:

Attractions and landmarks of Shiraz

• Nasir-ol-molk Mosque : Nasir al-molk (Nasir-ol-molk) mosque is also known as the Pink mosque and dates back to the Qajar period. This mosque is one the most beautiful buildings you will ever see. Extensive colored glasses are used in this mosque which create an amazing view and thus the name Pink mosque. If you want to go there, make sure you do it in the early morning so you don’t miss the amazing and unique scenery of the light made in the mosque when it passes through the glasses.
• Tomb of Hafez (Hafezieh) : Hafezieh, also known as tomb of Hafez was built in the memory of Hafez (famous Persian poet). Apart from the tomb itself, Hafezieh is beautiful place with tall trees, colorful flowers, and gardens. Hafezieh has always been one of the main attractions of Shiraz.
• Tomb of Saadi : Tomb of Saadi is also known as “Saadie” and it is dedicated to the Persian poet Saadi. Around the tomb there are many graves which belong to great men who are buried there by their own will. Shouride Shirazi is among these men. There is a small pool containing colorful and beautiful fishes in the basement of the tomb.
• Eram Garden : Eram garden is known as “Bagh-e Eram” in Persian and it is one of the most beautiful gardens in Iran. The structure underwent renovation during the Zand and Qajar dynasties and now is under the protection of Iran Cultural Heritage Organization.
• Persian Gulf Complex : After Iran Mall, The Persian Gulf Complex is the biggest mall in Iran in terms of shops, and also it is 12th largest shopping mall in world. The complex includes an indoor, and an outdoor pool, two amusement parks and six cinemas. There also is a hypermarket located within the mall.
• Afif Abad Garden : This complex contains a former royal mansion, a Persian garden, and a historical weapons museum. Afif Abad Garden probably dates back to the Qajar period and was used by the Safavid kings as a palace. Afif Abad garden is one of the most beautiful and historical gardens in Shiraz.
• Qur’an Gate : Qur’an gate used to be one the entrances of Shiraz and it was built during the Buyid dynasty and restored during the Zand dynasty. When restored two Qur’ans were placed in a room on top so people would pass under them and receive the blessings of the holy books and thus the name Qur’an Gate. During the Qajar dynasty several earthquakes damaged this gate but it was later restored. In 1937 the two Qur’ans were taken to the Pars museum in Shiraz. Currently the road to Shiraz is located next to this gate and many tourists spend their free time there.
• Delgosha Garden : Delgosha garden is the other one of historical gardens in Shiraz and it is close to the tomb of Saadi. This garden dates back to the pre-Islamic era of the Sasanian dynasty. Delgosha garden was one of important gardens during the Safavid period but some of the buildings were added during the Qajar dynasty. This garden contains many orange and sour orange trees and counts as one the best tourism places in Shiraz.
• Arg of Karim Khan (Karim Khan Citadel) : Arg of Karim Khan was built by Karim Khan order during the Zand dynasty and was used as living quarters. Karim Khan Citadel was both the home of Karim Khan and the military center of the Zand dynasty. Sometimes it was used as a prison but today it is a museum under the protection of Iran Cultural Heritage Organization.
• Vakil Bazaar : Vakil was the title used by Karim Khan of the Zand dynasty and is means regent. Karim Khan chose this title because he didn’t think of himself as people’s king. Vakil bazaar is one of the most famous historical and traditional bazaars of Iran. This bazaar is one the best places in Shiraz to buy anything, from Persian rugs to spices, handicrafts and antiques. It also contains very beautiful courtyards and old shops.
• Vakil Bath : Vakil bath is known as Hamam-e Vakil among Persians. It was built by order of Karim Khan and it is located west of Vakil mosque. 
• Vakil Mosque : Vakil mosque is known as Masjed-e Vakil among Persians and as you might have guessed it too was built by order of Karim Khan. It was restored during the Qajar period.
